Last updated on September 6th, 2012 at 08:50 am

CVS Care Corp. has officially closed on the former Union Avenue United Methodist Church building at Cooper and Union in Memphis, Tenn., clearing the way for the company to build a drug store.

Operating as CVS 4992 TN LLC, Rhode-Island based CVS purchased the building for $2.25 million from St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.

CVS also bought a 3,200-s.f. building at 171 S. Cooper, just south of the church.

It bought the adjoining property for $650,000 from 171 South Cooper Partners.

Memphis Heritage and other groups protested heavily against CVS’ plans to tear the church down.
