Winn-Dixie Issues Recall on Some Bakery Items

Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. is voluntarily recalling three mislabeled bakery items, lemon bar cakes, chocolate cherry bar cakes and the six-pack of iced cinnamon rolls

Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. is voluntarily recalling three mislabeled bakery items, reports the Jacksonville Business Journal.

The recalled items, which include lemon bar cakes, chocolate cherry bar cakes and the six-pack of iced cinnamon rolls, may contain undeclared egg and/or wheat ingredients that may pose a risk to individuals with allergies or severe sensitivities.

The recall was initiated as a result of an internal investigation after a customer complaint was received. Winn-Dixie is working with the Food and Drug Administration, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network to address the recall.

“Given this serious issue, we decided to pull the products from our stores and encourage customers with any concerns to return the product for a full refund, no questions asked,” Mary Kellmanson, Winn-Dixie’s group VP of marketing, said in a news release published by the Journal. “We are now conducting a thorough investigation to determine how the breakdown occurred so that we can prevent it from happening in the future. Protecting the health of our guests is our top priority.”

Consumers with questions about the recalled cakes can contact Winn-Dixie guest services at 1-866-WINN-DIXIE.

Winn-Dixie, based in Jacksonville, operates 484 grocery stores throughout Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The grocer plans to report its final results for its fourth quarter and fiscal year on Aug. 29.
