Coors Light Bumps Budweiser From No. 2 Spot

Coors Light has surpassed Budweiser as the No. 2 beer by shipments in the U.S., including Puerto Rico and exports, the Denver Business Journal reports.

This marks the first time since 1993 that Anheuser-Busch didn’t control both of the top two beer brands. Bud Light remains the nation’s top seller.

While Anheuser-Busch hasn’t yet released its own sales figures for 2011, it is estimated that Budweiser fell 4.6 percent to 17.7 million barrels while Coors Light shipped 18.2 million barrels, gaining about 0.8 percent last year, says the Journal.

Coors Light beat Budweiser in the U.S. even excluding Puerto Rico and exports, the Journal reports.

St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch Inc. is part of Belgium-based Anheuser-Busch InBev.
