KeHE’s Holiday Show Brings Huge Donation

Last updated on August 16th, 2012 at 10:16 am

KeHE Distributors celebrated its 60th anniversary year in a big way at its annual holiday show, which was held June 10-12 in Chicago.

Big, as in a truckload filled with products from Vigo & Alessi, including its premium la Molisana pasta imported from Italy. Retailers could bid on the truckload in a silent auction held during the show. A trip to Italy also was included. Vigo & Alessi agreed to donate the winning bid to the charity of the retailer’s choosing.

Maria Reyes, category director with KeHE Distributors, said the auction and donation helped launch the la Molisana exclusive brand.

“We have partnered with Vigo to bring it to the market,” Reyes said. “Vigo kindly donated more than $100,000 in retail value of not just la Molisana pasta, but a variety of Alessi products. We have a huge partnership with Vigo, and we hope to do this again next year.”

Price Chopper made the winning bid of $42,000, and the money will go to the Schenectady, N.Y.-based chain’s Golub Foundation.

John Richards from Vigo Importing said he was “extremely pleased, and we want to congratulate Price Chopper and KeHE Foods on this partnership.”

Organizations funded through Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation include hospitals, ambulance services, YMCAs, YWCA, libraries, universities, museums and community center. Funding has also gone to organizations like the American Heart Association, the March of Dimes, the Alzheimer’s Association and Junior Achievement.
