Metropolitan Market Announces Purchase Of Magnolia Thriftway

Set to be finalized in early September, Metropolitan Market will acquire Magnolia Thriftway, located at 3830 34th W. in Seattle, Wash., and operate the 17,500-s.f. store immediately upon transfer of ownership. Magnolia Thriftway owners Jim and Lynne Penhollow selected Metropolitan Market due to like-minded customer service and community values.
“For 34 years the Penhollow family has had the pleasure of serving the community of Magnolia,” the Penhollows said in a statement. “Our involvement with church, schools and our many friends here has made it feel like living in a small town. So it is bittersweet as we leave Magnolia Thriftway in the capable hands of Metropolitan Market, who will provide the community with the service and quality it so richly deserves.”
Metropolitan Market has taken steps to get to know current Magnolia Thriftway employees and interviewing for staffing the new store. In addition, the company plans to seek input from customers before making improvements to the store, including what items customers want most. A full-scale remodel is scheduled for 2013.
Metropolitan Market CEO Terry Halverson said, “We look forward to taking part in the neighborhood’s rich history, such as the Magnolia Little League, SummerFest, schools like Catherine Blaine K-8, Lawton Elementary, Our Lady of Fatima, and other organizations supported over the years.”
The store will remain open throughout the transition and during the remodeling work. More details are expected to come the following weeks.
