Actor J.R. Martinez Speaks To FPFC
The Fresh Produce & Floral Council (FPFC) met July 17 at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, Calif.
American actor and season 13 winner of “Dancing with the Stars” J.R. Martinez served as the event’s keynote speaker.
In March 2003, Martinez was deployed to Iraq and, on April 5—less than a month into his service—he was severely injured when the Humvee he was driving in Karbala was struck by a land mine. Three other soldiers who were with J.R. were ejected from the burning vehicle, but Martinez was trapped inside. He suffered smoke inhalation and burns to more than 40 percent of his body.
Martinez spent 34 months in recovery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He underwent 33 different surgeries, including skins grafts and cosmetic surgery.
Today, he is a motivational speaker who talks with businesses and groups all over the country.
