VertiFresh LLC has announced that, starting today, Denver, Colo.-based MAD Greens Inspired Eats will begin offering its signature “Alferd Packer” summertime salad made with all locally grown ingredients—including VertiFresh hydroponic lettuce. MAD Greens’ customers will be among the first in Denver to sample the company’s premium quality lettuce, grown using the patent pending PharmPlex hydroponic cultivation system produced by FusionPharm Inc., also based in Denver.

“Together MAD Greens and VertiFresh are doing our part to make a positive impact on Denver’s environment and economy,” said William Sears, founder of VertiFresh. “We know customers are committed to products that are good for them and good for the environment, and as two local companies, all our food dollars stay in the community.

“All of the lettuce Mad Greens customers will be enjoying in the Alferd Packer Salad will be picked fresh and delivered to Mad Greens within 24 hours, ensuring the freshest and most nutritious product possible,” added Sears.

Hydroponics (method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil) as a commercial plant growing technique has been in use for many years. VertiFresh is taking this concept to a new level in making urban farming a reality in Denver. Using the patent pending Pharmplex indoor cultivation system, which utilizes repurposed steel shipping containers to cultivate plants indoors, the company can grow premium quality produce literally minutes away from local restaurants and markets. Urban farming eliminates long distance, refrigerated food transportation. Urban farming using hydroponics also uses less than 10 percent of the water required for similar-sized traditional farming.
