Supervalu Inc. is selling its 580,000-s.f. distribution center in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., to Meijer Inc.

Meijer will open its first Wisconsin store in 2014: a 192,000-s.f. at Highway 100 and Loomis Road in Franklin. It also has received approval for three more in the state. It plans to open a 191,000-s.f. store on Port Washington Road in Grafton; a 157,000-s.f. supercenter at 11123 Burleigh St. in Wauwatosa; and a 193,000-s.f. supercenter at Highway K/Lisbon Road and Highway 164 in Sussex.

Supervalu will continue to operate the facility into early 2013, and, according to local media reports, it is looking for a new site in Pleasant Prairie, where it also has a 66,000-s.f. office building at 7400 95th St.

Supervalu’s new site may be in LakeView Corporate Park in Pleasant Prairie, according to John Steinbrink, village president, who is quoted in The Business Journal.

Steinbrink also said Meijer will move some of its corporate office workers to the distribution center.

Meijer reportedly plans to update the facility that was built in 1990.
