AG’s Hillar C. Moore Jr. Dies At 87

Sgt. Maj. Hillar C. Moore Jr.

Sgt. Maj. Hillar C. Moore Jr., retired president of Baton Rouge, La.-based Associated Grocers, died Thursday evening following a brief illness. He was 87.

Moore, a native of New Orleans, worked his entire life in the grocery business. He led the co-op from 1976 to 1995. He also was a U.S. Marine as well as a volunteer for numerous charitable causes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine A. Moore; and a daughter, Janet M. Webb. Survivors include his children: Hillar III, Debra, Michael, David, Steven and Judy.

Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, and at St. Aloysius Church, 2025 Stuart St., Baton Rouge, from 9-11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19. There will be a Mass of Christian burial following visitation at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow at Green Oaks Memorial Cemetery, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge.
