Dillard Retiring From AWG In January

Steve and Sandy Dillard

Steve Dillard, VP of corporate sales development for Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG) of Kansas City, Kan., has announced his retirement effective January 2013.

Dillard began his career with AWG in 1974, holding numerous positions in buying and merchandising until 1995.

From 1995 through 2003, he was VP of education and training, with his team developing and conducting more than 50 seminars and schools for the cooperative’s 2,400-plus member retail stores.

In 2003, Steve assumed his current position of VP of corporate sales development. In that role he was responsible for recruiting new member companies into the cooperative.

In addition to his sales responsibilities, Dillard held numerous board of director positions for AWG, including being on the board of directors for the Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska grocers associations. He also was AWG’s corporate media and industry relations executive, interacting with local and national industry publications.

In addition, he was a frequent speaker at the National Grocers Association (NGA) Convention in Las Vegas, as well as Food Marketing Institute (FMI), and spoke at numerous state association conventions.

“Steve will be missed,” said Jerry Garland, president of AWG. “He has spent his entire career representing AWG, and more importantly, independent family-owned businesses in the best light possible. His contribution to our industry will remain for many years to come.”

Dillard and his wife of 39 years Sandy plan to work in various church, civic, and missionary endeavors in the future.
