Sophie Mae Peanut Brittle Hits Shelves With New Look, Taste

The classic Sophie Mae Peanut Brittle brand is back. The generational favorite is returning with a new recipe and revamped packaging and product format from Atkinson Candy Co.

Lufkin, Texas-based Atkinson reformulated the Sophie Mae recipe to include more peanuts and less corn syrup than competitive products, while also cutting out trans fats, gluten, additives and other unnatural ingredients.

The new line includes 6-oz. traditional carton packs, 3.5-oz. theater boxes and 4-oz. peg bags.

“She’s back and ready to do business,” says Joe Picariello, Atkinson’s business development director.

He adds that the vegan-friendly and cholesterol-free brittle, combined with the Sophie Mae brand, is well positioned to appeal to moms shopping for their families.

“The makeup of the product is really designed for moms to look at it as an alternative to other snacks,” Picariello says. “When they open the pack, they get a great smell of fresh-roasted peanuts and a real robust flavor with every piece.”

Revolutionizing the segment with more convenient packaging and a product format tailored for on-the-go

consumers are all-natural handmade Sophie Mae Peanut Brittle Bites, according to Atkinson. The 2×2-inch brittle squares are a little thicker than traditional brittle pieces and are dense with peanuts. The Brittle Bites will be available in theater boxes and peg bags, two of the most popular packaging formats.

“Sophie Mae Peanut Brittle Bites combine a renowned candy brand with packaging that will have consumers seeking them out year round instead of just during the fourth quarter,” says Picariello, adding that the portable packs promote everyday sharing occasions.

Sophie Mae Peanut Brittle Bites’ 3.5-oz. theater boxes and 4.-oz. peg bags ship in 12-count cases and have a SRP range of $1.29-$1.49. The traditional-style 6-oz. boxes ship in 24-count cases and have a SRP range of $1.79-$1.99.
