Kroger Opens First Hilton Head Island Store

Kroger Hilton Head Island

Kroger’s first grocery store on Hilton Head Island, S.C., opened Wednesday.

The new 86,000-s.f. store at 42 Shelter Cove Lane brings about 250 jobs to the area, as well as an array of products, amenities and services to include a pharmacy with drive-thru; Starbucks Coffee; Murray’s Cheese; beer and wine offerings; Cigar Humidor; chef-prepared hot and cold foods; natural food department, including bulks foods; service deli/bakery; meat and seafood services; Kitchen Place; fuel center; and a cold beverage center.

The new Kroger anchors the Shelter Cove Towne Centre—a $76 million joint venture project with Blanchard & Calhoun in partnership with World Design Marketing and Collins & Arnold that will contain more than 290,000 s.f. for retail and restaurants, as well as 210 apartment spaces, when complete. Prominent tenants include The SERG Group, which currently operates seven restaurants on the island, as well as Heritage Jewelers.

“Kroger is excited to join the Hilton Head Island community in this new location,” says Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for Kroger’s Atlanta Division. “We have waited many years for the right time to become a part of the community, and Shelter Cove Towne Centre offers the perfect opportunity.”

To celebrate the new opening, Kroger is donating $1,500 to help support partner schools, including Hilton Head Elementary School, Hilton Head Middle School and Hilton Head High School.
