Fields Foods, a locally owned and operated grocery store specializing in locally produced food products, opened its doors in St. Louis on Saturday. Located at 1500 Lafayette Ave. near the south side of the city, the store is dedicated to bringing fresh, high-quality foods to residents of St. Louis, which has several urban food desert areas where healthy, nutritious food options have been limited.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new store was held Friday. St. Louis Mayor Francis G. Slay and other community leaders were on hand for the event, which allowed guests to tour the new store and sample products.
Fields Foods partners with local farmers and food producers to offer an assortment of the freshest food products, including many organic, pesticide-free and GMO-free choices. Fields Foods says its focus on locally-sourced products supports the local economy, helps small and mid-sized local food growers bring their products to a larger market, and gives back to local communities.
The new full-service store is walking distance from the Lafayette Square business district. In addition to offering vine-ripened produce, fresh meats and seafood, dairy, baked goods, bulk products and more, Fields Foods offers a selection of local foods as well as chef-prepared, ready-to-eat meals, a wine bar, a selection of beers, a sushi bar, and hot sandwiches and pizzas made on-site in an authentic brick oven.
