Healthy Ones, makers of lean, lower sodium and heart healthy deli meats, and retail partner Jewel-Osco will host an open-to-all pedaling event called “Pedal The Plaza” on June 26. It will take place at Pioneer Court Plaza in downtown Chicago and benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
Healthy Ones, part of the John Morrell Food Group, a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, and Jewel-Osco will make it easy for the general public to participate by providing more than two-dozen stationary bikes in the plaza.
The outdoor event will feature celebrities, music and a high-energy instructor. Each participant who pedals will be rewarded with a free lunch along with other healthy food items from Healthy Ones and Jewel-Osco.
The event also has a goal to raise $10,000 for BCRF, an independent not-for-profit organization whose mission is to advance the world’s most promising research to eradicate breast cancer.
“We’re planning to make this event a fun and easy way for people to make a healthy change to their day while donating to a cause that so many can relate to at the same time,” said Elizabeth Di John, brand manager for Healthy Ones. “We have a goal of raising $10,000 to BCRF and we invite anyone in the Chicagoland area to come and ‘Pedal The Plaza’ with us, enjoy a free lunch on us and Jewel-Osco and make a difference for themselves and others. We want to show that it can be easy to make a healthy change to your day and others, one pedal rotation at a time.”
VP of Marketing and Merchandising Doug Cygan said Jewel-Osco is happy to partner with Healthy Ones for the initiative.
“Health and wellness is a topic near and dear to Jewel-Osco being a grocery retailer,” Cygan said. “This event is a great way to promote healthy eating, creating awareness that there are everyday items at your neighborhood Jewel-Osco that are both delicious and also health conscious, as well as advocating being active.
