Sunset Taking Produce On Cross-Country Flavor Tour

Sunset has taken off on its first Flavor Tour to bring its flavor to American consumers coast to coast. The Sunset Flavor Crew will stop at a number of retailers, concerts and community events from Massachusetts to California over the next three months, culminating in Anaheim, Calif., for the Produce Marketing Association’s 2014 Fresh Summit Oct. 17-19.

“We wanted to create the opportunity to have more face time with our consumers,” said CEO Paul Mastronardi. “The tour is our chance to tell our story, to share our passion, and to create more of a dialogue with produce managers and consumers who love flavor.”

The crew will hand out free, gourmet samples of signature Sunset recipes to customers at various retailers and community events across the nation. It’s an opportunity for both retailers and consumers to learn more about greenhouse growing and about Sunset brands such as Kumato and Y.E.L.O.

“Oftentimes people associate healthy eating with plain flavors and long processes,” said Mallory Flanders, flavor crew member. “We want to show everyone that you can make quick and healthy recipes that are incredibly flavorful as well.”

Consumers also will have a chance to enter the Sunset “SweetStakes.” The grand prize is a personalized flavor trip for two to Napa Valley complete with wine tours and cooking classes. To follow the Flavor Tour or request a stop, visit flavor-tour.com. The next stop is on Aug. 7 in Detroit.

Family-owned and -operated Mastronardi Produce is an industry leader in the gourmet greenhouse industry that grows and markets nationally recognized brands such as the Campari, Zima, Angel Sweet and Kumato brand tomatoes under its Sunset label.
