Northeast Florida grocery newcomers include Earth Fare, which opened last week in East Arlington, and GFS Marketplace and Patel Brothers, which plan to open their first Jacksonville stores in Southside.

Trader Joe’s will open in Jacksonville Beach and is speculated to be looking at more areas for additional stores.

Earth Fare, whose first store is at Kernan and Atlantic boulevards, considers Jacksonville a three- to four-store market.

Aldi is opening in St. Augustine and plans a Middleburg store. Freshfields Farm opened in South Jacksonville.

Those new players join the expanding Rowe’s IGA Supermarkets chain; The Fresh Market growth; Walmart Supercenters and Walmart Neighborhood Markets; as well as the established Winn-Dixie, Native Sun, Whole Foods, Save-A-Lot and SuperTarget stores, among others.

Fresh Market will open its newest store in Riverside and another Walmart Neighborhood Market is planned at Hodges Boulevard and San Pablo Road.
