Door to Door Organics, a leading natural and organic online grocer, will expand its Michigan service to the Kalamazoo community. The Colorado-based company has been delivering farm-fresh organic produce and locally curated groceries to Michigan customers since 2009. Expanding into the Kalamazoo area continues Door to Door Organics’ sustainable growth trajectory, according to the company.

Growth in Michigan follows the company’s recent round of $25.5 million in Series B financing, which was secured in part to fuel Door to Door Organics’ expansion into additional markets in 2015. The online grocery industry is projected to grow from approximately $23 billion in 2014, which accounts for 3.5 percent of total online and offline grocery spending, to nearly $100 billion by 2019, representing 12 percent of total grocery spending.

The company says its weekly and bi-weekly organic produce and grocery delivery service options—backed by the Door to Door Organics’ Perfect Pick Guarantee—combines the simplicity of a recurring order with the personalization and the flexibility that busy customers need, without a delivery fee.

“Our goal is to increase access to local, natural and organic foods for busy consumers who often do not have the time to travel to several stores for the high-quality food they desire,” said Chad Arnold, CEO of Door to Door Organics. “For more than five years we’ve been delivering local food to Michigan customers, and now that we’re serving the Kalamazoo community, more busy families can easily plan and shop for fresh ingredients while also supporting nearby farms and small businesses that are the backbone of their community.”

More than 90 percent of Door to Door Organics customers cite supporting local farmers and artisan food producers as a key reason for choosing the online grocery shopping service, in addition to eating healthier and increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables they consume each week.

During the growing season, Kalamazoo customers will be able to choose up to 70 percent locally grown produce in their regular deliveries, thanks to a uniquely integrated mix of distributors and farmers offering a USDA-certified organic produce supply chain. Handcrafted local foods, such as Ope’s—Food the World Can Live With, also are available year-round in the comprehensive Shop section of Door to Door Organics’ website, with new local producers being added regularly.

“As a local artisan food company and long-time partner of Door to Door Organics, we are excited to see them expand their service,” said Lauren Oppenlander, owner of Ope’s. “The Michigan team has shown great support for local food producers and community organizations, so we look forward to a continued joint mission of bringing high-quality food to our community.”

Door to Door Organics currently delivers organic groceries to 30 markets in 11 states via five regional delivery facilities.
