The Minnesota Grocers Association (MGA) presented its 2015 MGA Legislator of the Year Award to Rep. Jenifer Loon (R-Eden Prairie) at the annual MGA Legislative and Food PAC Dinner on Jan. 27 at the St. Paul Hotel in St. Paul.

Each year the Minnesota Grocers Association recognizes a lawmaker who demonstrates a commitment to the food industry. This year’s award went to Loon for her strong and unwavering support of the food industry.

“Representative Loon has demonstrated outstanding leadership in her support of a free marketplace, not placing undue burdens on local businesses and helping Minnesotans keep their shopping baskets full,” said MGA President Jamie Pfuhl. “She understands both the role of the food industry within a community and the importance of the food industry to the economic health of Minnesota. Her dedication to the overall health of Minnesota’s economy is second to none.”

As assistant minority leader in the House Republican caucus, Loon was a leader on addressing a number of policies that were harmful to the interests of the food industry. She took a proactive role in the conversations on a multitude of labor issues, sharing industry’s concerns about the adverse impacts they would have on Minnesota’s business community. She continues to consistently fight policies that create competitive disadvantages in the marketplace, hurt economic growth and limit job creation, according to MGA.
