Food City has promoted Dan Glei to EVP of merchandising/marketing. Glei previously was VP of center store operations for the Virginia-based supermarket chain. That role has been filled by Ross Purdy. Glei brings more than 25 years of industry experience to his new position.

“Dan has done a great job with our center store, leveraging his experience in the grocery and consumer package goods industry since his arrival at Food City,” says Food City President and CEO Steven C. Smith. “He has proved to be a valuable asset to our company and I am confident that his service in this key position will enable us to continue to advance and improve upon our merchandising and marketing strategies.”

Prior to joining the Food City team in 2014, Glei served in a number of capacities for Ahold USA/Giant Food Stores, including SVP of merchandising, SVP of brand and format development and SVP of e-commerce. His new responsibilities with Food City include the functional areas of merchandising and marketing, as well as procurement, field supervision, merchandising support and leading the collaboration with consumer product goods partners.

“We have a simple philosophy for all of our merchandising and marketing efforts,” says Glei. “We always think about our customers first and then take care of our stores, and results are quickly realized.”
Glei holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Michigan State University. He currently resides in Abingdon, Virginia, with his wife Leigh and daughter Sarah.
