AquaBounty Technologies, a biotechnology company of Maynard, Massachusetts, that is focused on enhancing productivity in aquaculture, says the FDA has approved the company’s new animal drug application for the production, sale and consumption of its AquAdvantage Salmon, an Atlantic salmon that has been genetically enhanced to reach market size in less time than conventional farmed Atlantic salmon. Ronald L. Stotish, Ph.D., CEO of AquaBounty, said, “AquAdvantage Salmon is a game-changer that brings healthy and nutritious food to consumers in an environmentally responsible manner without damaging the ocean and other marine habitats. Ahold USA has been awarded its 74th LEED green building certification for the Giant Food store located at 8th and O streets in Washington, D.C. The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance. A total of 74 stores throughout Ahold USA’s retail divisions—Giant Landover, Stop & Shop New England, Stop & Shop New York Metro and Giant Carlisle—have achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable solutions to achieve sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, sustainable material management as well as improved indoor environmental quality…

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that prices of eggs at U.S. retail fell in October after prices soared 52 percent in the previous four months following the poultry industry’s loss caused by the avian flu. Egg prices declined 5.3 percent to $2.808 a dozen from an all-time high of $2.966 in September. The drop was the biggest since May 2014. The U.S. Department of Agriculture also reports the number of laying hens rose for the third consecutive month.
