Valeant Announces Walgreens Pact And New Distribution To Independent Pharmacies, And More…

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International has new fulfillment agreements with Walgreens and has indicated it intends to extend this distribution model to additional participating independent retail pharmacies. Valeant also plans to reduce dermatological and ophthalmological products by 10 percent. The reduced pricing will apply to the wholesale list prices of these products and will be phased in over the next six to nine months. This agreement also covers Valeant’s over-the-counter product portfolio. The agreement will enable consumers to access Valeant’s dermatology and ophthalmology products at a lower out-of-pocket cost from more than 8,000 of Walgreens’ U.S. retail pharmacy locations, as well as participating independent retailers. Because of government regulation, the cost-sharing program will not be applicable to patients with government insurance…

The Specialty Food Association has revealed the six winners of its fourth annual Leadership Awards honoring members who have gone “above and beyond” in advancing food standards in society—and society itself—by creating social, economic and environmental impact through innovation and vision. Their achievements range from navigating a food safety crisis to creating products that support both health and the environment to enhancing community through launching food businesses that empower workers in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Africa. The winners are: Business Leadership—John Lowe of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream and Greg Steltenpohl of Califia Farms; Citizenship—Kiberly Jung of Rumi Spice and Linda Appel Lipsius of Teatulia Organic Teas; and Vision—Josh Tetrick of Hampton Creek and Nikhil Arora and Alejandro Velez of Back To The Roots. The awards will be presented at a special ceremony Jan. 18 at the Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco. Judges included Derek Mulhern, Organic Trade Association, Washington, D.C.; Joe Roy, UNFI, Providence, Rhode Island; Donna Daniels, Social Venture Network, San Francisco; Rebecca Fontes, City Harvest, New York City; Errol Schweizer, Whole Foods Market, Austin, Texas; David Gremmels, Rogue Creamery, Central Point, Oregon; and Sara Holby, Ajiri Tea, Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania.
