Hugo’s Magnuson Nelson Appointed To NGA’s Board Of Directors

Kristi Magnuson Nelson, president of Hugo’s Family Marketplace that operates stores in North Dakota and Minnesota, has been appointed to the board of directors for the National Grocers Association (NGA).

Hugo’s Family Marketplace is headquartered in Grand Forks and is a third-generation, family-owned and -operated 10-store chain; it also operates five liquor stores. Magnuson Nelson’s grandparents, Hugo and Dorothy Magnuson, founded the grocery store in 1939. Her father, Curt Magnuson, served as president from 1967 until his death in 2007.

In 2014, Magnuson Nelson was awarded the NGA Spirit of America Award and, in 2015, she received the North Dakota Grocer of the Year Award. She also serves on the board of directors for the local Prairie Harvest Foundation, The Grand Forks and East Grand Forks Chamber of Commerce, the North Dakota Grocers Association and the Minnesota Grocers Association. She is a supporter of the local United Way, UND, the Community Violence Intervention Center, Northland Rescue Mission and the North Dakota Museum of Art.
