The Got to Be NC Big Cart is hitting the road with several North Carolina food companies to help Piggly Wiggly celebrate its 100th anniversary. The Big Cart is now making stops at Piggly Wiggly stores in eastern North Carolina.
The Got to Be NC Big Cart is a promotional vehicle operated by the marketing division of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The 13-foot-tall by 15-foot-long shopping cart has a Chevrolet 396 V-8 engine. The Big Cart is sponsor-supported.
“The Got to Be NC Big Cart is just one of the ways we promote North Carolina agricultural products,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Piggly Wiggly is a great supporter of North Carolina farmers and food businesses, and we are proud that Got to Be NC can be a part of its centennial celebration.”
During the celebration, Piggly Wiggly will host truckload sales featuring North Carolina food companies and appearances by the Big Cart. Participating food companies are Bright Leaf Hot Dogs, Pender Packing Co., Pepsi, Porky’s Place BBQ Sauce, Star Food Products, Stevens Sausage Co. and WayCo Ham Co.
The truckload sales will take place at the following Piggly Wiggly stores in eastern North Carolina:
• March 18: 12536 Sanford Street, Bailey
• April 16: 607 W. Second Street, Kenly
• May 6: 202 Dr. Donnie H. Jones Jr. Boulevard, Princeton
• May 13: 509 S. Parker Street, Elm City
• May 27: 407 E. New Bern Road, Kinston
• June 11: 2715 N.C. Highway 11-55, Kinston
• Aug. 13: 2960 Richlands Highway, Jacksonville
• Oct. 7: 2715 N.C. Highway 11-55, Kinston
Got to Be NC is the official state identity program for agricultural products grown, raised, caught or made in North Carolina.
