National Wine Day is May 25, and Whole Foods Market is celebrating by unveiling its ‘Top 10 Summer Wines,’ all priced less than $20 per bottle and curated by experts.

Whole Foods Market’s global wine pros Doug Bell and Devon Broglie, a master sommelier, selected the wines to be foolproof, crowd-pleasing picks for any summer gathering and classic summer flavors.

“Our goal in choosing these top 10 wines for summer – or any bottle on our shelves – is to find wines that make for easy drinking and even easier decision making,” said Doug Bell, senior global coordinator of beverage for Whole Foods Market. “We want our customers to feel confident that any wine at Whole Foods Market will satisfy their needs and their budget.”

Presto Sparkling Cuvee Italian Sparkling Wine

Presto Sparkling Cuvée in cans – Lightweight, portable cans are perfect for summer. From picnics and the pool, to camping trips and barbecues, cans are easy to carry and chill quickly. They also eliminate the need for wine glasses and can be thrown in a cooler along with the beer and sodas. This sparkling cuvee has an abundance of apple flavors, and its long finish shows an inkling of sweetness with a nice bite.

Broadbent Vinho Verde – Vibrant green apple and fresh citrus aromas tinged with a floral note. Classic effervescence lends frothy liveliness to the body. This wine really shines with chèvre or lobster.

Oya Point Sauvignon Blanc – Warm tropical fruit flavors mingle with a touch of spice up front. Ripe, sweet citrus and hints of red grapefruit move to passion fruit and melon mid-palate. Grilled Scallop Kabob with Harissa-Herb Sauce pairs perfectly.

Andover Estate Chardonnay – Apple, pear and melon flavors counterpoint nicely with a creamy oak-aged butteriness. Wonderful balance in the crisp, medium-long finish. It’s a great wine for turkey burgers.

Bieler Pere et Fils Bandol Rosé – This distinctive French wine region is known for rosé, and this wine is a best-in-class example. Watermelon and raspberry flavors lend a layer of richness over this bright and dynamic rosé. Pale, yet vibrant pink in the glass — pure magic! Try it with grilled swordfish tacos or a creamy French brie.

Macedon Pinot Noir – Aromas of dark cherry, dried currant, earth and spice. Robust flavors of sassafras, strawberry and wildflowers. Pair it with this recipe for Fig and Cantaloupe Salad with Mozzarella & Prosciutto.

Globerati Tempranillo – Ripe cherry and big red fruit flavors are highlighted by rich leather notes. Subtle tannins balance nicely with a mild, smooth finish. This Spanish wine is naturally great for tapas, a perfect way to sip and snack through laid back summer meals.

Capezzana Barco Reale – This is the “date night” wine for summer. Intensity and elegance meet in this dark purple wine. Earthy rusticity evokes evenings in Tuscany. It’s a perfect match for heirloom tomato and creamy pesto pasta.

Autoritas Cabernet Sauvignon – ripe cherry aromas mingle with sweet spices, vanilla and chocolate. Silky, well balanced, approachable and friendly. Pairs well with burgers.

Valravn Sonoma County Old Vine Zinfandel – The red for rib-eye. Floral aromas at first, then notes of mocha and ripe red berries. Freshness, weight and complexity born of 50- to 100-year-old zinfandel vines.
