Wrigley Debuts New Products And Retail Insights At Sweets & Snacks Expo

Last updated on June 6th, 2016 at 04:12 pm

The William Wrigley Jr. Co., a subsidiary of Mars Inc., is introducing a new lineup of products from several of its brands including Orbit, Skittles and Doublemint, as well as sharing retailer insights during the NCA Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago this week.

 Sharing Original Insights for Retailers

At the Sweets & Snacks Expo, Wrigley and Mars Chocolate North America will introduce several solutions to grow retailers’ businesses, including its Transaction Zone Vision panel discussion, “Meeting Consumers’ Needs in the Transaction Zone.” A panel of shopper experience experts from Wrigley, Mars Chocolate, Walgreens and WD Partners will lead an insight-filled discussion about how manufacturers and retailers can maximize new and existing transaction zones by adapting to current trends in the retail environment to fulfill shopper needs at check out.

The transaction zone vision’s merchandising recommendations take into account sales performance in the current retail environment’s checkout spaces, distill macro trends and category growth, and layer in Mars’ deep understanding of the shoppers’ need states. “We’re using our transaction zone research to create customized strategies that are tailored to build our retail partners’ businesses,” said Edward Taylor, VP U.S. sales and operations for Wrigley. “The way people shop is changing, and now’s the time to provide fresh thinking that benefits not only gum and confections, but the total category of incremental check out sales.”

Introducing New Products and Innovation

Wrigley will introduce more than a dozen new products to continue giving consumers more ways to enjoy their favorite brands.

“We’re eager to bring new extensions to Wrigley’s gum and confection portfolio with innovations designed to offer more choices to our consumers. With a great new form for Orbit White, a simply sweetened gum with Doublemint Perfectly Sweet, or the gummies they crave now from Starburst, there’s even more ways for consumers to enjoy the brands they love,” said Taylor.

New items Wrigley will introduce at Sweets & Snacks include:

Orbit White – In January 2017, Wrigley will introduce a new Orbit White, a soft chew sugar free gum that helps keep teeth white

Doublemint Perfectly Sweet – Launching in December, Doublemint Perfectly Sweet offers a new choice for consumers seeking gum sweetened only with real sugar and provides the taste people expect and love from Doublemint gum

Starburst Gummies – In June, Starburst will release new Starburst Gummies, available in Starburst Original and Sours flavors

Juicy Fruit Fruity Chews Watermelon – In June, Juicy Fruit is launching a new flavor with Juicy Fruit Fruity Chew Watermelon

Starburst Ice Cream Flavors Jelly Beans – Debuting Spring 2017, new Starburst Ice Cream Flavors Jelly Beans put a new twist on your Easter egg hunt with ice cream inspired flavors

Skittles America Mix – In April, Skittles introduced new, special-edition Skittles America Mix, with a patriotic colored mix of red, white and blue berry flavors perfect for summer celebrations

Mars Chocolate will also be introducing new flavor extensions to consumers’ favorite chocolate brands, including Snickers Hazelnut, Twix White Chocolate Cookie Bars, Dove Sorbet Bars, Dove Peanut Butter and Dark Chocolate Promises and a wide range of seasonal offerings for these brands, plus M&M’s, Milky Way and 3 Musketeers Brands.

Wrigley is Driving Growth

Mars is growing in the U.S. as Wrigley has expanded its Skittles production in Yorkville, Illinois. To keep pace with consumer demand, Wrigley needed to increase capabilities to complement the current Skittles production at Mars Chocolate’s Waco, Texas factory. The company completed a $50 million, 145,000-s.f. expansion to Wrigley’s Yorkville manufacturing facility. The investment adds 75 full-time manufacturing jobs – a 25 percent increase in total jobs at the factory.

With innovations and big partnerships behind the brand, demand for Skittles is expected to continue growing. This winter, Wrigley and Mars Chocolate will return to Super Bowl LI with their second joint-selling program: the Candy Bowl. Harnessing the power of Mars’ combined product portfolio, the 2017 in-store program will support retailers with a promotion inviting consumers to join Team Snickers or Team Skittles to win instant prizes and unlock exclusive content.

“Supporting our retail partners with programs that build excitement in and out of stores is a top priority for Wrigley and Mars Chocolate,” said Taylor. “Big moments in sports, blockbuster summer movies and holidays are exceptional opportunities for us to help retailers connect shoppers with some of the category’s biggest brands in an impactful way.”
