Mr. Dan Murphey died Saturday, May 28, at his residence in Paris, Tennessee, at age 73.
He was president of Clifty Farm Country Meats, where he began work with his father in 1964 when it was a small family business. Mr. Murphey worked there for more than 50 years.
Clifty Farm has grown to be a nationally and internationally recognized company. Mr. Murphey was known for his Clifty Farm TV commercials filmed with county music stars like Grandpa Jones and Roy Acuff, but his favorites were filmed with his family in his home on the farm.
He enjoyed cattle farming and was a former pilot.
Mr. Murphey also served on the board of the National Country Ham Association.
He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and youth Sunday school teacher. He was a longtime Paris Optimist Club Member.
In addition, Mr. Murphey was a former member and chairman of the Henry County School Board and former chairman of the Tennessee School Board Association.
Mr. Murphey was born Dec. 19, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Truman Murphey and Agatha Donaldson Murphey.
On Sept. 7, 1963, he married Jane Burnett Murphey and she survives.
Besides his parents, he also was preceded in death by a son, David Joseph Murphey.
Visitation and services were held May 29 at First Baptist Church in Paris.

Just heard that Mr Murphy has died. I had worried about him since he hadn’t been on TV. He and his wife had a beautiful family. Always nice to have have a chance to see you all together. Our family will miss seeing your family.
