The Fresh Grocer opened its newest store at 421 S. 69th Street in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 30. The 53,000-s.f. unit is owned and operated by Patrick J. Burns and the Burns family, who have more than 30 years experience in the supermarket business in the greater Philadelphia area.

“We are delighted and excited to open our newest Fresh Grocer supermarket in Upper Darby,” said Burns. “We look forward to providing the community with a first-class shopping experience for years to come.”

The Upper Darby store offers a state-of-the-art shopping experience with more than 40 varieties of home-style prepared hot entrees made fresh daily, fire grilled chicken, Chinese cuisine, a garden fresh salad bar as well as The Fresh Grocer’s signature made-to-order hoagies and sandwiches. Customers also will find an in-store bakery featuring special occasion cakes; an expansive meat department offering a service case with trained butchers available for custom cuts and special orders; a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and local produce; full-service deli and seafood departments; and a beer and wine garden with a variety of domestics and imports. The store also offers an online shopping service via thefreshgrocer.com with store pick-up and home delivery options available daily. Additionally, shoppers who spend $50 or more are welcome to utilize the store’s shuttle service that provides complimentary rides home for customers and their groceries.

The new Fresh Grocer of Upper Darby employs approximately 200 full- and part-time workers and is open daily from 6 a.m.-midnight.

Upper Darby Township Mayor Thomas N. Micozzie along with Sen. Tom McGarrigle, Rep. Margo Davidson and other local elected officials joined the grand opening and ribbon-cutting celebration on Sept. 30 that culminated with the supermarket’s $10,000 check presentation to Philabundance. The donated funds will support local huger relief efforts, providing more than 20,000 meals to people in need.

A member of Wakefern Food Corp., a retailer-owned cooperative, Burns currently operates six Fresh Grocer supermarkets and two ShopRite supermarkets, located throughout the greater Philadelphia area.
