Big Y Finds Card Skimmers In Five Locations

Last updated on October 14th, 2016 at 01:54 pm

Within the past week, Big Y Foods has discovered and immediately removed “skimmers” on five single-payment terminals in five of its 75 stores. The five skimmers were placed at foodservice/pizza registers.

The five stores impacted are located in Avon, Connecticut; Wilbraham, Massachusetts; Rocky Hill, Connecticut; Northampton, Massachusetts; and Springfield, Massachusetts (the Cooley Street store). Big Y says it is investigating the incidents with law enforcement agencies.

In a statement, Big Y said: “We have inspected all of our terminals, and we continue to do so. Although our investigation is ongoing, at this time we have no reason to believe that any customer data was compromised. If this changes, we promptly will notify impacted individuals and provide them with information so that they can take steps to protect themselves. As a best practice, customers should always review their bank and credit card statements for any signs of fraudulent activity and, if they have any questions or concerns, contact their bank or credit card company directly.”
