Gordy and Donna Schafer today announced the retirement of their sons Jeff Schafer, president of Gordy’s Market, and Rick Schafer, VP of facilities. Jeff and Rick have worked for the Wisconsin-based, family-owned and -operated business for more than 80 years combined.
Gordy’s Market CFO David Schafer, son of Gordy and Donna, will assume the role of CEO. Gordy’s Market VP of Information Technology and Human Resources Jenna Schafer, daughter of Gordy and Donna, will serve as chief information officer. Both David and Jenna began their careers as part-time clerks at Gordy’s Market on Lake Wissota and have held positions of increasing responsibility in several functions and areas of the grocery business.
“It has been an incredible journey working with my family and the hardworking team at Gordy’s Market,” said Jeff. “I am proud to turn the business over to the fully capable hands of my brothers David and Dan, sister Jenna, as well as the third generation of Schafers who are now an instrumental part of the family business.”
Added Rick, “We have truly enjoyed serving our communities, meeting so many of our customers and helping my parents further the family business.”
David said, “We have a great deal of fond memories working with our brothers, Jeff and Rick, and have been lucky enough to grow Gordy’s Market from the one store on the southside of Chippewa with our father and mother to now 26,” said David. “Jenna and I are looking forward to the next 50 years and leading the team of 2,000 employees here at Gordy’s.”
In addition, Gordy’s Market VP of Sales Joel Jacobson has been been promoted to COO. Jacobson has been with Gordy’s for 24 years, holding clerk, store manager and various director roles.
Gordy’s owns and operates 26 stores with 2,000 employees across western Wisconsin.
