Schnucks Opening Replacement Store In Evansville, Indiana

Last updated on November 21st, 2016 at 10:41 am

On Dec. 7, Schnucks will open a replacement store in Evansville, Indiana, for its 4600 Washington Avenue location. That store, which was in operation for nearly 40 years, will close at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6. At 7 a.m. the next morning, a new, 59,000-s.f. supermarket with a pharmacy will open less than a quarter of a mile away in the Lawndale Commons shopping center.

A short ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow at 9 a.m.

“We’re very excited to offer our customers and the whole Evansville community a brand new location,” said Chris Wynn, store manager. “It’s because of their loyalty and patronage that we were able to build this brand new store to serve them even better.”

After opening day, store hours will be 6 a.m.-midnight daily.

Schnucks entered the market in 1977 by opening the Evansville North and Evansville East stores in a partnership with Walgreens. After buying out that partnership, Schnucks went on to open the Evansville West store in 1989. In 1992, the company acquired Neville’s IGA in Newburgh and operated that store until 2008, when a replacement store was built. In 2003, Schnucks opened its Green River Road store with the Darmstadt location opening in 2015.

With six stores in the area, the St. Louis-based company employs nearly 900 teammates.

Founded in in 1939, Schnuck Markets is a third-generation, family-owned grocery/pharmacy retailer. Schnucks operates 100 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa. Privately held, Schnucks employs more than 14,000 people.
