Martin’s Super Markets opened its newest store Thursday at 525 S. Mayflower Road in South Bend, Indiana—replacing the unit at 4401 Western Avenue, which opened in 1979.

“This store is a celebration of, and renewed dedication to, Martin’s long history of serving South Bend’s west side community,” said Martin’s President and CEO Rob Bartels. “The local community has shown us that we’re a valued part of their lives, and we’re confident this new store will match their high expectations.”

Speaking on behalf of the store’s on-site partner, Notre Dame Federal Credit Union President and CEO Tom Gryp added, “Notre Dame FCU is extremely excited to be part of this new Martin’s Super Market. Our expanded branch here in the store represents our commitment and investment in the west side of South Bend. We could not ask for a better partner than Martin’s.”

Among the new features of the replacement store is the addition of just the second in-store Martin’s Smokehouse BBQ facility, highlighting a variety of traditional smoked meats and side dishes, hot and ready to eat. A community room with seating up to 84, sponsored in part by KitchenAid, is available for store events as well as scheduled classes and private events. The store also includes a Starbucks Coffee kiosk and pharmacy.

The store showcases a 150-seat Side Door Deli, as well as a large outdoor patio area seating more that 75 that is available to shoppers year round. In addition to expanded choices in grocery, frozen foods, dairy and health and beauty, all fresh department selections are enhanced. The Produce Market, Bake Shoppe, Seafood Shoppe and Butcher Shoppes all offer the selection, quality and convenience shoppers have come to expect from Martin’s Super Markets, the chain says.

The supermarket’s out lot is anchored by a Martin’s Express convenience store/fuel center .

Additionally, the new South Bend store is the seventh in the grocery chain to offer Martin’s Groceries-To-Go, an app- and web-based ordering system in which customers can choose grocery items, pay for them online and then schedule a time for pickup during scheduled store hours.

Martin’s Super Markets was founded in 1947 and operates more than 20 stores in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Plymouth, Nappanee, Logansport and Warsaw, Indiana, and Niles, Stevensville and St. Joseph, Michigan.
