Twin Cities, Minnesota-based Kowalski’s Markets is expanding its existing e-commerce program with GrocerKey, an omni-commerce software and operations company, to include mobile self-checkout capabilities for shopper self-service. This new feature will let shoppers scan and pay from their personal devices in-store.

GrocerKey Mobile Self-Checkout expands the choices for shoppers using Kowalski’s “On-the-Go” program, which currently offers online ordering, curbside pickup and home delivery. Mobile Self-Checkout will be announced on Kowalski’s On-The-Go website when it is available.

Kowalski’s selected GrocerKey last year to digitally enable its brand and its offers, and provide a “more enhanced shopping experience,” the company says. GrocerKey’s platform includes online browsing, e-commerce, picking, click and collect, home delivery, mobile apps and now its Mobile Self-Checkout program.

“Beyond these innovations, Kowalski’s also chose GrocerKey as an enablement partner, working side-by-side with GrocerKey to source and enable rich content, deepen CPG relationships to source offers, and efficiently and affordably implement its solution platform,” said GrocerKey in a press release.

“In choosing a partner for our online business, we wanted one that provided value beyond the technology,” said Mike Oase, COO of Kowalski’s Markets. “GrocerKey is a partner we trust to ensure shopper satisfaction through innovative technology and operational success.”

GrocerKey launched Mobile Self-Checkout as an expansion of its mobile shopping application, enabling a frictionless checkout experience.

“Kowalski’s stays ahead of the competition by balancing a new, rich digital experience with a superb in-store atmosphere,” said Jeremy Neren, CEO of GrocerKey. “We’re excited to expand the Kowalski’s On-The-Go program and begin offering our new Mobile Self-Checkout application to bring more value to shoppers at any and all of their eleven stores throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro.”
