Radermacher’s, Faribault Foods Take Home MGA Silver Plate Awards

Radermacher’s Fresh Market-Le Sueur and Faribault Foods Inc. are two of eight Minnesota companies to be recognized for their exceptional efforts to end hunger in their communities through the annual Minnesota Grocers Association (MGA) Bag Hunger Campaign.

MGA’s hunger programs have provided more than 37 million meals to Minnesota families in need since 2008. This year’s campaign included 258 MGA retail members and seven vendor partners, as well as community food banks and food shelves across the state.

Participating stores and vendor locations offered multiple opportunities for consumers to contribute to the campaign. Many retailers encouraged customers to donate grocery items in-store or round up their purchase totals at the register, contributing the price difference to feed local families. Others prominently displayed the names of customers who donated money on grocery list icons. All food and monetary contributions collected were distributed to a variety of local food shelves, banks and support organizations across the state. 

Radermacher’s Fresh Market-Le Sueur and Faribault Foods received the Silver Plate Award for Best Marketing Campaign. The Bag Hunger Campaign offers a chance for campaign participants to get creative with in-store advertising while engaging consumers to end hunger. In addition to the award, Radermacher’s Fresh Market-Le Sueur presented a $500 donation to the Le Sueur Food Shelf, and Faribault Foods Inc. presented a $1,000 donation to Channel One Food Bank on behalf of the 2017 Bag Hunger Campaign.     

MGA's new logo“This was the first year our store participated in the Bag Hunger Campaign,” said Amy Ernsting, store manager of Radermacher’s Fresh Market-Le Sueur. “Our store had a great time coming up with display ideas and an execution plan. Nothing warms our hearts more than the support of our community and their willingness to donate to help families in need here in Le Sueur. Winning this award and being able to donate $500 to our Le Sueur Food Shelf made it even more exciting!”

“The purpose of the Le Sueur Food Shelf is to provide food to our clients on a temporary basis. We provide this food willingly, cheerfully, generously and with essentially no questions asked,” said Gaylon Moody, Le Sueur Food Shelf president. “Whatever the client’s circumstances might be, we treat them with dignity, respect and privacy.”

“Faribault Foods Inc. is a supportive and generous partner of Channel One Regional Food Bank. By providing support through financial and food donations in addition to donating volunteer hours, they help us in our mission of working in partnership with others to help feed people in need,” said Virginia Merritt, Channel One Regional Food Bank executive director. “Congratulations to Faribault Foods Inc. for the Best Marketing Campaign Award, and a special thank you for the $1,000 donation.”

“It was exciting to see these partnerships develop, and everyone’s hard work on the Bag Hunger Campaign make a positive difference for Minnesota families in need,” said Jamie Pfuhl, president of the MGA. “All of our participants did a great job raising awareness on a community level and rallying consumers behind this important cause.”
