Tim Devanney Highland Park Markets
Born and raised in Connecticut, Tim Devanney, owner of Highland Park Markets of Connecticut, is an example of a fine independent grocer, a dedicated family man, and someone who gives back to the community.

In 1958 Tim’s father, Jack Devanney, bought a small grocery store known for supplying quality goods and services. At 10 years old, Tim began sweeping floors and stocking shelves at the market. He continued to work for the store until his father encouraged him to work outside of the family business. He was able to gain extensive experience by working at other Connecticut grocers such as SavMor Supermarket and Epicure Market.

In the late 1980s, he took over running the daily operations from his father. Under Tim’s leadership, Highland Park Markets has grown at its original location while undergoing several remodels, and the store has grown to four locations in both Hartford and Tolland counties.

Tim’s father, Jack, not only passed a store onto him but also the philosophy of giving back to the community. Tim’s passion for his work and deep sense of community involvement has led him to be honored by several organizations on both a local and national level.

He’s been recognized by the Connecticut Food Association as both their Person of the Year and as an inductee into their Hall of Fame. Tim was also presented with the Spirit of America Award, an honor that has been bestowed upon key figures in the industry devoted to governmental and community work in the interest of a free and independent food distribution system.
