With more than 21 years of experience with Stop & Shop, McGowan will focus on leading a supply chain organization that supports all of Ahold USA and its four divisions. He will continue to establish the supply chain function as a source of competitive excellence, which will help drive brand, format and merchandising strategies in support of the four divisions.

McGowan joined Stop & Shop in 1991 as a management trainee and his positions have included SVP and GM of the New York Metro division, SVP of sales at Stop & Shop, and SVP of Stop & Shop New England. He became president of the Stop & Shop New England division in November 2009.

As president of the Stop & Shop New England division, Kelley will run all aspects of the division, including sales, operating profits, organization and people. He also will help preserve the local Stop & Shop brand while ensuring that results are achieved by the Stop & Shop New England division—consistent with Ahold USA’s overall strategy. Stop & Shop New England currently operates 218 supermarkets in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and parts of Connecticut, and employs more than 35,000 associates.

Prior to working at Marsh, Kelley was the EVP for Price Chopper. He joined Price Chopper in 2005 as the VP of sales, merchandising and marketing, and was promoted four times there over five years. Kelley also held leadership roles at Bozzuto’s, Adams Hometown Markets in Connecticut, A&P and Purity Supreme.

“Joe and Mark will add more retail expertise to our leadership team, and they will help to drive Ahold USA’s overall strategy and preserve the divisions’ local brands,” said Carl Schlicker, COO of Ahold USA.
