July 27 is opening day for Southern Family Markets’ new banner, Food World Discount Foods. The two converted Food World stores are located in Decatur, Ala.—at 1652 Beltline Road SW and at 2019 6th Ave S.

The new banner focuses on bringing lower prices to consumers by stocking items of extreme value, bonus packs and big-pack quantities; no discount card needed.

“We are very excited about this new format and all that it will offer the local residents,” says Max Henderson, president of Southern Family Markets, based in Birmingham. “We know our customers are looking for more ways to save on groceries without sacrificing name brands or quality. Food World Discount Foods is all about providing more ways to save—we wanted to make a positive change for the consumer with low, low everyday prices and top quality products.”

One such new program is the “Truckload Meat Deals,” designed to package larger quantities of meat together for families. There are many packages to choose from, all with meats commonly used in everyday meals. The Meat Deals range in size from 20-238 pounds per package.

Food World Discount Foods stocks food items most frequently purchased by consumers, including items under the Best Yet and Value Time private labels.

Southern Family Markets is a retail chain comprised of all Bruno’s, Food World and Southern Family Markets locations, as well as select Piggly Wiggly stores in Mississippi, Georgia and lower Alabama—and now, Food World Discount Foods.
