Food Network, Whole Foods Donate to Create 45,000 Meals for Philly’s Hungry

Food Network joined Share Our Strength, Whole Foods Market and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter’s office to raise awareness of childhood hunger in Philadelphia. The holiday food collection drive helped deliver 45,000 meals in the Philadelphia area before Christmas. Previous drives in December in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Md., collected enough non-perishable food items to prepare 90,000 meals.

Dry food donations are down about 7 percent in the Philadelphia region this year compared to 2010, while agencies served by Philabundance are experiencing a 26 percent increase in need.
