Trader Joe’s Confirms Plan For Newington, N.H., Store

Gourmet grocer Trader Joe’s is coming to The Crossings at Fox Run in Newington, N.H.

The Monday announcement created chatter on local social media sites and was confirmed by company officials on Tuesday, reports the Union Leader.

It is the second Trader Joe’s set to open in the state this year, with an announcement in December that the Tyngsboro, Mass., store would be moved over the border into Nashua this year as well.

The California-based “neighborhood grocery store” is known for its unique decor and products.

The Newington store at 45 Gosling Rd. will be about 14,700 s.f. and offer beer and wine as well as Trader Joe’s signature products, the company said in a prepared release.

The store will feature Trader Joe’s signature cedar-covered walls and Hawaiian motifs, including employees or “crew members” in Hawaiian shirts. Officials said the festive decor also will include a “local flair” of art celebrating the neighborhood, the Leader reports.

Nearby residents also may start receiving a copy of Fearless Flyer, the company’s “somewhat irreverent description of a timely selection of Trader’s Joe products” after the store opens, according to the Leader.

More than 1,000 items are offered under the Trader Joe’s private label, including Trader Jose’s salsas, Trader Ming’s fried rice, Trader Giotto’s marinara sauces and specially purchased items.

The grocer purchases direct from manufacturers, not from distributors, and will take a brand name product, remove the preservatives and artificial colors and ingredients and reissue it under the Trader Joe’s label and sell it at a discount, the release from the company said.
