Lykins Oil Purchases Petron Oil

Lykins Oil Co. has purchased Petron Oil Co., headquartered in Chillicothe, Ohio, and servicing Pickaway, Ross, Pike, Scioto and Fairfield counties. Petron Oil’s owner, Jim Doersam, and his 17-person staff will remain with the company.

Doersam says he chose to sell Petron to Lykins for a number of reasons.

“Lykins is a family owned business, like Petron, and it’s committed to the communities it serves, like Petron,” he said. “This is a perfect fit for our employees and our customers. I have known Jeff Lykins, the president of Lykins Oil Co., for many years. I trust and respect him and we run our companies with a similar focus of offering top-quality products and outstanding customer service that exceeds client expectations.”

Petron Oil was founded by Jim Doersam’s grandfather, Val Doersam, in 1956 as Oil and Battery Petroleum Sales Co. Inc. Jim Doersam changed the name to Petron Inc. (doing business as Petron Oil) in 1981.

“I’m very excited about this consolidation. It’s the combination of two great family-owned businesses combining resources and buying power to deliver even better products and customer service to Petron’s individual and commercial clients,” said Doersam.

Under Lykins, Petron residential customers will continue to have home heating oil, propane and other petroleum products to choose from. Commercial clients will now have access to a number of new products and services such as Eco Supreme Premium Diesel (a proprietary formulated fuel that keeps commercial equipment running at peak performance), E-85, Bio-Diesel, propane, compressed and liquefied natural gas, and gas and electricity brokerage services. Under Lykins, area gas stations and convenience stores will have the choice of Shell, BP, Marathon, Exxon/Mobil and Clark brands as well as unbranded fuel.

Doersam said he encourages all Petron customers to continue to do business with the new owners. “The office will be run by the same people our customers have known and trusted for nearly 60 years, just with a different company name. People can expect the same top-quality operating standards and service level, with an even greater variety of products and services and a continued commitment to exceed customer expectations.”

Jeff Lykins said the purchase of Petron expands Lykins’ presence in the company’s Eastern group.

“We look forward to working with the businesses and residents to supply them with the best oil options, product selection and customer service possible,” he said.

Lykins Oil Co. is a family-owned and -operated business headquartered in Milford, Ohio. The company was founded in 1948 by Guy Lykins Sr. and is now in the third generation of management. The company serves customers in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana as well as the Midwest and Southeast.
