Community Markets stores throughout Central Ohio will be donating 8,000 pounds of poultry to Our Daily Bread and Hands to Heart food pantries as part of their annual Christmas giving campaign. The Bellefontaine Community Markets locations, combined with other Community Markets locations throughout Ohio, will be a part of the Christmas 2013 4-ton poultry donation.

The donations from Community Markets will take place Thursday, Dec. 5, and start at the Lakeview location with donations going to United Christian Services. At noon, donations to Our Daily Bread and Hands to Heart food pantries will take place at the Community Markets store located at 878 East Sandusky Ave. in Bellefontaine. The poultry will then be transported to the local food pantries for distribution throughout December.

“There is a need all year long for donations like this, but we are fortunate to have excellent vendor partners that allow us to make these types of gifts at a time when some families need it most,” said Ed Green, director of meat operations for Community Markets, referring to Miller Poultry of Orland, Ind. Miller Poultry has been partnering with Community Markets for the past five years, allowing the stores to allocate the food donations to the towns they serve.

Community Markets is a banner of Findlay, Ohio-based Fresh Encounter Inc., the state’s largest independently owned supermarket chain. Operating 30 retail outlets throughout Ohio and Indiana, the organization employs 1,100 people and also operates the Great Scot and Sack & Save banners.
