Gorton’s Seafood has reinvented its iconic product—the fish stick.
New Smart & Crunchy Fish Sticks from Massachusetts-based Gorton’s are arriving on shelves now and are expected to be available nationally by early 2015. Smart & Crunchy Fish Sticks, also available as Fish Fillets, are made with 100% wild-caught Alaska Pollock which is breaded in a panko coating for added crunch. They have 50 percent less fat than Gorton’s regular Fish Sticks and have 180 calories per serving, according to Gorton’s.
Gorton’s first introduced the fish stick to American dinner plates in 1953. Since then, fish sticks have become a mealtime staple and a building block many parents have used to introduce their young children to seafood.
“We are so excited to be able to share these new products,” says Gavin Kennedy, director of consumer marketing at Gorton’s. “We’ve been working hard at this concept for quite some time, trying to find a way to improve our iconic fish sticks nutritionally and maintain that same great taste and crunch that Americans have come to love over the past 60 years. I really think we’ve done it. We can’t wait to hear what people think about Smart & Crunchy.”
