Five branches of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with Stop & Shop New England on April 9. The previous contract expired in late February. If approved, the agreement covers Stop & Shop stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The tentative agreement is subject to ratification by the 35,000 members of the five local unions covered by the agreement. Locals 328, 371, 919, 1445 and 1459 will hold ratification votes in the coming weeks. The New Jersey Food Council (NJFC) will host its 2016 Trade Relations Conference on May 11 at Harrah’s Casino & Resort in Atlantic City. John Derderian, president of Allegiance Retail Services, will offer remarks on the “State of the Food Industry” and Tim O’Conner, managing partner of the Retail Performance Group, will present “Retail Transformation 2020.” The reception and program will be held from 3-6 p.m. Debbie Pregiato, customer team leader for Advantage Solutions, will be honored with the New Jersey Food Council’s Max Stone Trade Relations Award. She will be the first woman to receive this recognition. The conference will feature the NJFC’s first “Chef Cook-off Challenge,” and NJFC will announce the recipients for the 15 student scholarship awards. The event will conclude with a golf event at Galloway National Golf Club at 9 a.m. May 12 in Galloway, New Jersey.
