Wendy’s Data Breach Was Widespread, And More…

Wendy’s told its investors last week that a comprehensive investigation into “unusual credit card activity” at its North American restaurants is nearing completion. Wendy’s told investors that malware, installed through the use of compromised third-party vendor credentials, affected one particular POS system at 300 of approximately 5,500 franchised North America Wendy’s restaurants, starting in the fall of 2015. The company has “worked aggressively with its investigator to identify the source of the malware and quantify the extent of the malicious cyber attacks, and has disabled and eradicated the malware in affected restaurants.” Wendy’s also says that cyber security issues are still occurring, reporting to investors that approximately 50 franchise restaurants are suspected of experiencing, or have been found to have, unrelated cyber security issues. The company and affected franchisees are working to verify and resolve the issues…

A Taunton, Massachusetts, Bertucci’s, located in a mall, was closed for several days after a 28-year-old man went on a violent spree and stabbed two people in the restaurant. The man also stabbed two women in a home, crashed a car into the mall, and assaulted several people inside a Macy’s department store. An off-duty sheriff shot and killed the suspect. In all, three people were killed, including the suspect, and several were injured…

Three-time World BBQ Champion Myron Mixon will host a traditional ’Q Cook School July 15-17 at the Myron Mixon Smokers facility in Waterford, Connecticut. On the menu for the weekend event is learning how to prepare and barbecue the four main proteins: brisket, pork butt, ribs and chicken. Cook School includes 11 hours of instruction time, meals, tours of the Myron Mixon Smokers manufacturing facility at Seconn Fabrication, a dinner and social with Myron, and time for evening activities.
