Buehler’s Fresh Foods of Wooster, Ohio, named the winners of its inaugural Buehler Scholarships at a presentation ceremony and reception held at the Buehler’s Medina River Styx store on June 3. The event recognized the recipients of two scholarships—the Ed & Helen Buehler Scholarship and the Gene & Don Buehler Scholarship. Family, friends and co-workers were there for the celebration.

Logan Haid, son of Russell and Lisa Haid of Medina, Ohio, received the Ed & Helen Buehler Scholarship. A graduate of Medina High School, Logan plans to pursue a degree in engineering at the University of Cincinnati or University of Akron. He is the front end lead bagger at Buehler’s Medina River Styx, and has qualified for the statewide Ohio Grocery Bagger competition to be held this August. In addition to his academic accomplishments, Logan is actively involved in tutoring, recreational sports and community service.

Joshua Froats, son of Regis and Karen Froats of Medina, Ohio, was awarded the Gene & Don Buehler Scholarship. Majoring in chemical engineering, Joshua will be a junior at The Ohio State University in Columbus, and is employed in the office of academic affairs at OSU. He is on the dean’s list and is active in the Theta Xi Fraternity, is a writer for an online newspaper and volunteers in the community. Joshua’s mother, Karen, is a cashier at Buehler’s Medina River Styx.

The Buehler Scholarships were established to honor Ed, Helen, Gene and Don Buehler’s legacy and to underscore their commitment to youth, to family and to their employees. The scholarship program provides financial support to employees and their dependents enrolled in college.

“We believe that we have an obligation to support and recognize our youth,” said Dan Shanahan, president and COO. “We hope to give our young people a head start to a successful career by offering tuition scholarships to further their education.”
