Brunch Bill Campaign Generates 1,000+ Letters To Lawmakers, And More…

The New York coaster campaign in support of the Brunch Bill has generated 1,171 letters in support to state lawmakers, urging them to pass legislation that would allow restaurants to apply for special permits to serve alcohol beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday mornings. If passed, the bill would update a 1934 law. “Across the state, New Yorkers have shown they want the legislature to update the outdated regulations that prevent them from ordering what they want, when they want it,” said Melissa Fleischut, president and CEO of the New York State Restaurant Association. “The letter campaign was driven by drink coasters produced by the New York State Restaurant Association and the Empire State Restaurant and Tavern Association and were passed out to various eating and drinking establishments across the state. The coasters instructed customers to visit a website to send a form letter to their representatives. In all, 5,000 drink coasters were distributed in Albany, New York City, Syracuse and Buffalo”…

Heather Singleton, COO of the Rhode Island Hospitality Association (RIHA) and Rhode Island Hospitality Education Foundation, recently was presented with the 2016 Johnson & Wales University Lifetime Achievement Distinguished Alumni Award, which highlights JWU alumni who have made significant achievements in the hospitality industry. Singleton, a 1995 graduate, was among 13 alumni who were honored at the JWU Harborside campus.
