Wrigley-Mars Expands Skittles Growth, And More…

Wrigley, a subsidiary of Mars, has opened a state-of-the-art addition to its Yorkville, Illinois, factory. The $50 million investment by Mars added 145,000 s.f., a new Skittles line and 75 new jobs.  The Yorkville expansion reflects the growth of the Skittles brand. According to Wrigley the rainbow-colored candy is now the No. 1 non-chocolate confection brand. Mars also recently completed the opening of a new Mars Chocolate factory in Topeka, Kansas; expanded a Mars Chocolate factory in Albany, Georgia; opened a new Mars Petcare Innovation Center in Thompson’s Station, Tennessee; and constructed a new Mars Drinks campus in Westchester, New York. In the next two years, the company will invest an additional $900 million in expansion of operations and associate training and development…

Cumberland Farms announced that for the 10th consecutive year, 130 high school seniors from nine states have been awarded $1,000 Cumberland Farms “Believe & Achieve” Scholarships. From the launch of its scholarship program a decade ago, the company has provided well over $1 million in financial assistance to more than 1,000 students. This year, Cumberland Farms awarded scholarships to 37 students in Massachusetts, 23 in Florida, 27 in New York, 14 in New Hampshire, eight in Connecticut, 13 in Maine, three in Vermont, four in Rhode Island and one in New Jersey…

A new Beverage Marketing report discovered that consumption of bottled water accelerated 120 percent between 2000 and 2015. That explosive growth happened while carbonated drinks have spiraled downward, dropping 16 percent during the same 15-year period.
