Dutch Farms Donates 129,600 Eggs To Food Bank

On Tuesday, Dutch Farms Inc. donated a truckload of 10,800 dozen eggs to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. The eggs will be distributed through the food bank’s 120-plus partner food pantries, soup kitchens and other agencies and will provide 13,500 meals to individuals and families struggling with hunger in Lake and Porter counties.

More than 100,000 people in Lake and Porter counties—or one in six—are considered food insecure, meaning they have limited or uncertain access to nutritionally adequate food at some point during the year. The food bank distributes more than 4.3 million meals every year in the region, and serves 15,000 people every month through its partner agencies and programs.

Since the beginning of its partnership with the food bank, Dutch Farms’ donations have resulted in 70,500 meals in Lake and Porter counties.

“Fighting hunger is a big job and it’s one that requires the full support and partnership of the community,” said Arleen Peterson, executive director of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. “Dutch Farms is a wonderful partner of the food bank. They consistently step up to support our programs and services and help ensure that all of the hungry kids, adults and seniors in our community have access to the good, protein-filled food they need.”

Kevin DeVries, VP of Dutch Farms and member of the board of directors at the food bank, says he wants to continue strengthening the relationship between the two organizations, especially at times throughout the year when the food bank has empty shelves because of minimal food donations.

Family-owned Dutch Farms offers a full line of dairy, deli, meat and bakery products. It regularly gives 10 percent of total company profits to nonprofit organizations nationwide.
