Giant Eagle Expands ‘Fresh In :30’ Home Cooking Meal Kits

With consumer interest in creating restaurant-quality food at home, quickly and conveniently, Giant Eagle has expanded its “Fresh in :30” by Market District restaurant-quality meal kits to 15 Pittsburgh-area Giant Eagle and Market District locations.

The kits contain nearly everything needed to make a meal for two with pre-measured, pre-packaged ingredients as well as step-by-step cooking instructions.

“We are continually striving for new ways to help customers get delicious, high quality meals to the dinner table,” said Giant Eagle spokesperson Dan Donovan. “Fresh in :30 is a wonderful option for customers with limited time, knowledge or interest in shopping for all of the necessary ingredients to prepare a restaurant quality meal at home.”

According to data from market research publisher Packaged Facts, the U.S. meal kit delivery services market will generate approximately $1.5 million in sales in 2016, and will grow to a multi-billion-dollar market over the next five years.

“Similar to our popular Curbside Express online grocery ordering service, our Fresh in :30 offering adopts the best of what industry trends tell us consumers are seeking, and delivers it in a manner most valuable to customers in our markets,” Donovan added.

The fresh meal kits take 30 minutes or less to prepare and cook. There are seven meal options. Varieties currently include: Sirloin with Parmesan Risotto; Sundried Tomato Panko Crusted Salmon; Garlic Shrimp Linguine; Chicken Alfredo; Honey Mustard Chicken; Stroganoff Meal; and Miso Salmon. The cost for one kit is $16.99 (serves two). A cooking instruction card comes with each kit, which also includes suggestions for pantry staples and kitchen essentials.

  • 15 locations? which ones? I live by Kennywood and had to drive to Shadyside Market District store to get dinner the other night. Would be nice if these were available closer by. I would by them more often!
