The Arizona Food Marketing Alliance (AFMA) returned to the mountains this month to host its annual “Get Out of the Heat” Summer Golf Classic, which took place at the Rim Club in Payson, Arizona. Golfers traveled from the Valley of the Sun, where temperatures loomed in the 100s, and played golf in Payson, where it was a wee bit cooler at 90 degrees.

Once again an additional six foursomes were added to the Rim Club’s sister property Chaparral Pines.

There were four Sampling Holes on the Rim Club course that included: Diageo and New Amsterdam Vodka from BreakThru Beverage; Tea of a Kind; and Four Peaks Brewery. Vendors were able to connect with their grocery customers, allowing them to see, touch and taste their newest offerings. Fry’s Food Stores was the luncheon sponsor.

“This golf tournament is supported by our retail food partners and their suppliers,” said AFMA President Tim McCabe. “This annual event is one of the highlights of the year where there is a lot of networking and camaraderie taking place at a spectacular location and at a cooler elevation.”

Established in 1943, AFMA is the state trade association representing every major supermarket chain as well as convenience and independent store owners, food manufacturers and brokers. The Arizona Retail Food Industry and its suppliers represent $16 billion in sales revenue, 5,600 outlets and more than 100,000 employees in the state of Arizona. The mission of the Alliance is to represent and advocate the interests of the Arizona retail food industry and their supplier partners in legislation, regulation, education and other appropriate services.
