Giant Food Stores, based in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, has donated $729,173 to Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals. The money was collected by customers during the company’s recent Candles for Kids fundraising campaign, which ran in more than 170 Giant Food stores and Martin’s Food Markets Nov. 11-24.
“Once again, Giant and Martin’s customers have helped give the gift of hope and healing to the children in our communities who need it most, and we could not be more thankful for their generosity,” said John Ponnett, SVP of retail operations for Giant Food Stores. “I’d also like to thank our associates who are always fired up to support CMN Hospitals not just during the holiday season but all year, ensuring kids in need get the best care possible.”
Funds from the Candles for Kids fundraising campaign benefit The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania; Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Danville, Pennsylvania; Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.; University of Virginia Children’s Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia; Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Maryland; and Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital.
“On behalf of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, I want to sincerely thank Giant/Martin’s customers and team members for the dedication and support of this year’s holiday Candles for Kids campaign,” said Clark Sweat, chief revenue officer for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “The total raised in 2018 is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to the work Giant/Martin’s teams do every day in support of sick and injured kids in their communities.”
The company is one of the top 15 corporate sponsors in the country for CMN Hospitals. Combined with the grocer’s in-store Miracle balloon campaign conducted earlier this year, customers raised more than $1.4 million for local CMN Hospitals in 2018. In addition, the company this year also provided funding for a number of projects and programs, including 3D printing and modeling for congenital heart disease at Penn State Children’s Hospital, construction of the Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Child Advocacy Center at Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.
CMN Hospitals, the alliance of premier hospitals for children, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals across North America.
